“I expected it” – Benoit Badiashile reveals one important thing that surprised him about Chelsea

Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile revealed the only thing that surprised him about the club in a recent interview.

Badaishile joined the Blues from Monaco in January 2023 in a deal worth £35m and had a brilliant first six months at the club playing alongside Thiago Silva.

However, since then he has suffered several injuries and has not been able to establish himself as a regular in the first team squad.

Badaishile is now fit again and put in a good performance against Liverpool, but was forced off during the second half.

It is not believed to be a serious injury and Badiashile is likely to be a candidate to start Saturday’s game against Nottingham Forest.

Enzo Maresca has spoken about how good he thinks Badiashile is, and the Frenchman has the opportunity to establish himself at Chelsea this season with all the uncertainty at centre-back.

In January it will be three years since Badiashile joined the club and he revealed the only thing that surprised him since he arrived.

“Maybe the winning mentality,” he told Chelsea’s official website.

“I wasn’t too surprised, because I knew it would be like this when I came here, but it’s a lot bigger than I expected.”

Chelsea won the Club World Cup and the Conference League last season, and hope to add more titles to the cabinet this season.

The dilemma of central defender Enzo Maresca

Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo are expected to be available for the game against Forest, with Maresca now having to make a decision at centre-back.

The centre-back pairing was cut and changed at the start of the season, although Chalobah and Fofana started back-to-back games against Manchester United and Lincoln.

Now is the time for Maresca to choose his preferred partner and stay with her, since the last thing he wants is a lack of continuity at center back.
