For Rocky Mountain, the win means hosting Eagle for the SIC championship next week. For Timberline, a win sends them to Eagle for the same opportunity. But first, the Wolves must solve a problem that has plagued them for years.
The No. 2 Grizzlies (7-0, 4-0 6A SIC Foothills) come to Dona Larsen Park riding a 13-game winning streak over Timberline that dates back more than a decade. Rocky Mountain hasn’t just beaten the Wolves: it’s overwhelmed them, and this season’s version could be the most dangerous yet.

The Grizzlies feature the most explosive offense in the state, averaging 44.9 points per game behind a rushing attack that leads 6A with 309 rushing yards per game. The dynamic 1-2 punch of Oakley Baxter and Boise State commit Rasean Jones have combined for nearly 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns, forming one of Idaho’s most feared backfield tandems.
Rocky Mountain’s defense has been equally impressive, throwing back-to-back shutouts and holding their opponents to just 18.7 points per game. The Grizzlies have forced 12 turnovers and consistently stifled opposing offenses during their perfect season.
No. 12 Timberline (6-1, 3-1 6A SIC Foothills) comes in with big momentum after bouncing back from its loss to Middleton with a dominant 49-7 win over Centennial last week. The Wolves believe they have the formula to end their long losing streak against the Grizzlies.
The on-field showdown comes down to one critical question: Can Timberline stop the run?
The Wolves feature the stingiest defense in the state, allowing just 13.4 points per game and forcing 15 turnovers. However, concerns remain after Middleton pounded them for 277 rushing yards two weeks ago. If Timberline’s front seven can’t contain Rocky Mountain’s running game, the 13-game losing streak will almost certainly be extended to 14.
But Timberline brings its own offensive firepower. The Wolves rank fourth in scoring with 36.6 points per game, fueled by quarterback Jack Brandt, who ranks third in 6A with 1,523 passing yards and an impressive 22 touchdowns against just two interceptions. His favorite target, Hudson Lewis, leads the way with 12 receiving touchdowns and ranks second in both yards (714) and receptions (40).
For the Grizzlies, continuing their dominance over Timberline would cement their status as 6A’s top program while also securing home-field advantage for the conference championship.
For the Wolves, toppling Rocky Mountain would break more than a decade of frustration and prove they belong among the state’s elite. A victory would not only end a losing streak: it would announce Timberline as a serious championship contender.
The winner takes the Foothills Division crown, a spot in the conference championship and a crucial bye in the first round of the playoffs. The loser still makes the title game, but must travel to face the undefeated Eagle.
