TDOC officials said they are adopting this method to reduce contraband and increase security as inmates receive “faster, more reliable mail delivery.”
Mail from family, friends and loved ones will be collected at a centralized facility to be processed, scanned and then sent to inmates in digital format via provided tablets.
TDOC officials said they were adopting this method to reduce smuggling and increase security as inmates receive “faster, more reliable mail delivery.”
Mail that follows TDOC’s inmate mail policy appears on inmate tablets as written, including drawings and other personalizations. Inmates will not be charged for letters and will have access to them during their incarceration.
The new process will begin on November 3 and the email must be sent to the following address:
- Facility name
- Inmate First Last
- TDOC Identification Number
- PO Box 247
- Phoenix, MD 21131
Senders will have the ability to track the status of their mail. They will also receive a notification for rejected letters. Personal mail delivered to the facility after the start date will be returned.
