Cincinnati police have released dashcam footage showing a person damaging the Marty Brennaman statue outside Great American Ball Park.
What’s in the video?
The video lasts approximately one minute.
The footage begins with a person next to the statue. They are on tiptoe and appear to be grabbing the statue’s bronze microphone.
On the first attempt, the person manages to break the microphone from its original place. At this point in the video, the microphone is still attached to the statue but is now facing a different direction.
The person then attempts to climb the statue before returning to the ground, leaning on the statue’s support and looking over their shoulder.
The microphone is virtually missing from the newly installed statue of Marty Brennanman.
There is a cut in the video as the person walks away from the statue. After the cut, the person can be seen walking back towards him.
When they return, they continue trying to loosen and remove the microphone.
Almost a minute later, the person appears to manage to remove the microphone and hold it in their hands.
The person then climbs onto the statue one last time and is almost completely on top of the statue stand before jumping to the ground and away from the camera.
A Cincinnati police spokesperson says they have no further information at this time, but asks anyone who can identify the person or has other information to call Detective Blank at 513-352-5442 or the non-emergency line at 513-765-1212.
What did the reds say?
The Reds are investigating the situation.
When asked about damage to the statue and whether there were security cameras in the area, a spokesperson for the Reds did not share any information.
