After 14 years in business, Mesa Pizza, known for its macaroni and cheese pizza, abruptly closed its restaurant in Minneapolis’ Uptown neighborhood.

Its last night of service was Halloween, a night of blessing for costumed revelers, and the impending closure was announced around lunchtime on Friday.

“Unfortunately we have to announce that we will be closing with a heavy heart,” reads a Mesa Pizza Instagram post, soundtracked by Semisonic’s “Closing Time.”

“It was by no means an easy decision, but all good things must come to an end… It has been an honor to serve the uptown community. From the drunk who NEEDS a slice of macaroni to the pregnant mother (who) NEEDS a slice of macaroni. We appreciate each of you endlessly.”

Mesa Pizza also operates locations in Minneapolis’ Dinkytown neighborhood and in Iowa City, according to its website.

Mesa representatives did not respond to a request for comment on whether those locations are affected by the change in Uptown.

Dinkytown restaurant staff said they were unsure if that store would remain open. However, it was still open on Saturday, November 1st.
