Eduardo Flores Ruiz, 31, pleaded guilty in September to entering the United States illegally after reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors. The US Department of Homeland Security tweeted on Friday afternoon that he has now been deported.
The tweet did not mention whether he had been transferred to his native Mexico or to another destination. The Associated Press emailed his attorney, Martin Pruhs, seeking more details but he did not immediately respond.
Flores Ruiz is at the center of a case against her that could end with Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Duggan going to prison.
According to court documents, Flores Ruiz left his home in Mexico when he was 18 years old in 2013 and sneaked into the United States. He was arrested and deported immediately after crossing the border, but returned to the country a few days later, making his way to Milwaukee where he worked in restaurants for about 12 years.
He was charged in March with three misdemeanor counts after getting into a fight with his roommate. U.S. immigration agents learned he was in the country illegally after the Milwaukee County Jail submitted his fingerprints to federal databases, according to court documents.
He was scheduled to appear before Dogan on April 18. US immigration agents intended to arrest him at the hearing, but Duggan, prosecutors say, learned they were waiting for him and escorted him out of the courtroom through a special door. From there, Flores Ruiz made his way abroad. Agents arrested him after a chase through the streets.
A federal grand jury indicted Dugan last May on charges of obstruction and concealment of an individual to prevent arrest. She is ready to His trial Starting December 15th. She could face up to six years in federal prison if convicted.
