Sir Alex Ferguson praises Ruben Amorim’s rising star at Man United
Few figures carry more weight in football than Sir Alex Ferguson, and when he offers praise, it tends to mean something. The legendary former Manchester United manager highlighted Senne Lammens as one of the club’s most impressive recent signings and described the young goalkeeper’s start under Ruben Amorim as “outstanding”.

Lammens emerges as United’s new goalkeeper
Manchester United entered the November international break on a five-match unbeaten run, including notable wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, as well as draws against Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur. Among those who caught the eye is Belgian goalkeeper Lammens, who Ferguson says embodies the kind of steady progress United fans have been longing for.
“There are signs, the coach has had some good signs,” Ferguson told Raceday RTV. “In particular, the goalkeeper has been exceptional. He has only played three or four games and he looks very good.”

Signed from Royal Antwerp for £18.1 million, Lammens initially had to wait behind Altay Bayındır before finally making his debut on 4 October against Sunderland. The 22-year-old marked that first clean sheet outing at Old Trafford and has retained his place ever since. His standout performance came in the 2-1 win over Liverpool, where he made five crucial saves to frustrate the defending Premier League champions.
Amorim reconstruction gains momentum
RubĂ©n Amorim’s project at Manchester United entered its second season under cautious optimism, after a turbulent 2024-25 campaign. The Portuguese coach has sought to balance youth and experience while reshaping the team’s tactical identity. Ferguson’s public backing will be a welcome boost as Amorim looks to re-establish the consistency that once defined United during the Scottish era.
Ferguson also praised Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha for “contributing” to the club’s recent progress. Mbeumo, with four goals in five games, has been one of Amorim’s most effective attacking options, while Cunha and Benjamin Å eÅ¡ko have shown flashes of attacking promise that suggest a long-term plan is taking shape.

Ferguson’s faith in Amorim
“I hope the manager has a bit of success because at United you need to have success… the signs are getting better,” Ferguson said. His message underlines both encouragement and expectations, a reminder that standards at Old Trafford remain unforgiving.
“I think back-to-back wins are something teams like United should always look forward to. But having gone through a cycle where improvement has to come from waiting and being patient, they will now enjoy it.”
Manchester United are currently seventh in the Premier League standings, just two points behind Chelsea in third. With Lammens in charge of his area, Amorim’s team seems more serene and competitive. If this trend continues, United could soon go from promising signs to genuine contenders once again.
Their next opportunity will be against Everton on November 24, where Amorim will hope to extend that unbeaten run to six games and further justify Ferguson’s glowing assessment.
