In an interview with BVB TV, the 31-year-old versatile player reflected on a particularly difficult period.

“It was perhaps the most difficult stage of my career. But now I’m back and I’m focusing on the positive,” Can said.
“It wasn’t a pleasant time, that’s all I can say about it. You have to stay incredibly strong, especially mentally. I had some setbacks during my rehab, so it wasn’t easy. However, I always stayed positive.
“Our physical therapist Peter Kuhnt, rehab coach Dennis Morschel and the guys have been very supportive. I completed parts of my rehab with Schlotti (Nico Schlotterbeck, editor’s note) and Juju (Julien Duranville, editor’s note). They were important to me too.”
Returning just before the international break, Can admitted he could feel the rust after so much time away.

“Playing football again after so long is not easy. I felt it after the game. But things are better at the moment and I’m happy to be back on the field.”
“The break came at the right time because, honestly, I’m still not ready to play every three days. I need to get back to that rhythm and I also have to regain confidence in my body.”
