Several moves have been made for the Houston Texans ahead of their trip to Kansas City.

Veteran safety Jalen Mills was promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, according to the team’s transaction list. In a corresponding move, the Texans placed rookie safety Jaylen Reed on injured reserve for the second time, ending his season.

Reed, a sixth-round pick out of Penn State, was named the starter after recording 11 tackles and recovering a fumble against the Buffalo Bills. In the Week 13 win over the Colts, the rookie broke a metal plate inside his forearm and had to be surgically repaired, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Sports.

His arm was in a sling after the game, but the Texans decided not to place him on IR immediately. After not practicing all week, the team decided to end its season and open a roster spot.

Safety has already become an issue for Houston after starter MJ Stewart suffered a torn quadriceps, ending his season in Week 10. Veteran Myles Bryant is expected to take over the starting role once Reed’s season ends, while Mills will serve as a backup.

For Sunday’s game, the Texans also elevated cornerback Alijah Huzzie and defensive tackle Haggai Ndubuisi from the practice squad. Huzzie could serve as depth at cornerback with Kamari Lassiter (foot) listed as questionable after missing most of practice this week.

The start is scheduled for 7:20 p.m.
