Santa Ana, California — The former president of a California company that produced true crime television shows has been added to the list FBI Most Wanted ListYears after she was accused of portraying herself as an heiress to extract millions of dollars from lenders.
The FBI said on December 5 that Mary Carol McDonnell, 73, is believed to be in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
McDonnell is the former CEO of Bellum Entertainment LLC, based in Burbank, Calif., which produced shows like “It Takes a Killer” and “I Married a Murderer.”
Bellom was experiencing financial problems in 2017. McDonnell was able to obtain a $14.7 million loan from a bank after falsely claiming to be related to the founders of McDonnell Douglas, a leading aviation and aerospace company, and had $28 million in a trust account, according to court documents.
“McDonnell also allegedly defrauded other financial institutions in a similar manner, resulting in an estimated loss of more than $15 million,” the FBI said.
McDonnell was indicted by a grand jury in 2018 on fraud and identity theft charges. Not found. The case was filed in federal court in Santa Ana, California.
