Daniel Peretz was surprised earlier this year when he was not named newly promoted Hamburg’s number one when he joined them on loan. Instead, he was left on the bench for all league games and only played in three DFB Cup games, including last week’s thriller against Holstein Kiel. They had back-to-back wins to start their campaign, before facing Kiel. They were able to keep a clean sheet for 118 minutes, but conceded the late equalizer that forced penalty kicks. Peretz saved a penalty, but they ultimately fell 4-2.

Peretz was asked after the game if he would terminate the loan in January, when the transfer window opens. He told Sport Bild (as reported by @iMiaSanMia) that: “I expected to be number one. That hasn’t been the case so far. Of course, I’m not happy with that. I don’t hide it. I think no footballer is happy when he’s not playing. My goal is still to play every game. I came to HSV to play as many games as possible. Now I’m accepting the situation, taking it one game at a time, training hard and trying to give my best every day, to make it as difficult as possible for the coaching staff.”

Bayern are unlikely to recall Peretz to Munich without a solid plan to loan him out for the rest of the season. The question remains: if no other Bundesliga team is willing to give Peretz playing time, would it be better for him to stay in Hamburg and fight for a place or go to a lower division where he could get consistent playing time?
