After failing to build on his breakout 2024 campaign, New York Mets infielder Mark Vientos is reportedly hiring a new agent ahead of the 2026 season.

Will Sammon of The Athletic reported Monday that Vientos will hire Scott Boras as his new agent. Boras, of course, represents most of Major League Baseball’s prolific players and is the president of Boras Corporation. Sammon also reported that Vientos is eligible for arbitration for the first time after next season.
The 26-year-old entered New York last year as the starting third baseman after having a career year in 2024. Despite starting the 2024 season in Triple-A, Vientos ended up playing in 111 games for the Mets, hitting .266/.322/.516 with 27 home runs, 71 RBIs and a career-best .802 OPS. Vientos also had an excellent postseason for the Amazins, hitting .327/.362/.636 with five home runs and 14 RBIs (which was a Mets franchise record for postseason RBIs).
Despite entering last season as a lock to be the club’s starting third baseman and perhaps the third baseman of the future, Vientos endured an inconsistent and injury-plagued 2025 season. While he appeared in a career-high 121 games last season, Vientos hit just .233 with 17 home runs, 61 RBI and a .702 OPS.
Vientos would end up becoming the forgotten man at third base. He ended up at designated hitter after fellow third baseman Brett Baty turned in a big season for the Mets in 2025, leading to him becoming the starter for most of last season and potentially into 2026.

Although the Mets saw their homegrown first baseman, Pete Alonso (who is also represented by Boras), sign a five-year, $155 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles last week, Vientos’ future in Flushing is certainly in flux even though the slugger also played first base at the major league level in the past.
Vientos hiring Boras as his new agent could prompt him to seek a long-term deal with the Mets or elsewhere. Although he has been inconsistent since arriving in the big leagues, Vientos’ power at the plate is undeniable.
