After the NFL announced a two-game suspension to Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman on Monday afternoon for repeated violations of playing rules intended to protect the health and safety of players as a result of a late hit penalty imposed against him during Sunday’s game against the Cowboys, fans took to social media to express their displeasure with the league’s disciplinary decision.

Although the 10-year NFL veteran has violated league policy on such matters in the past, the final straw for Perryman was the aforementioned late hit penalty on Dec. 21, where he hit Cowboys wide receiver Ryan Flournoy’s helmet while he was on the ground after making a catch.

Despite the well-deserved in-game penalty, Chargers fans have collectively expressed that the league overreacted to the hit by imposing a suspension on the team’s defensive star. This potential impact his absence can have on the team over the final two weeks of the regular season only strengthens fans’ belief.
