In the end, Thomas was ruled out. Rookie Marcus Mbow will earn the starting job at left tackle.

“He’s obviously in a unique situation. That position, in general, just has to be ready to go at a moment’s notice,” offensive coordinator Tim Kelly told reporters. “And in a privileged position, being able to go out and go unnoticed is really a testament to him and his ability to prepare and stay locked in.
“And even though he may not be getting all the reps during the week, he’s able to understand the game plan and still go out and perform at a high level. So, Marcus did a good job with that. He’s got a whole week to prepare and looks forward to seeing him play on Sunday.”
The news was equally bad for safety Tyler Nubin and defensive lineman DJ Davidson, who missed their third straight practice and were also ruled out.
Meanwhile, tight end Theo Johnson was added to the injury report with an illness.
