TGL’s second game of the season took place Friday night at the SoFi Center and featured Boston Common Golf and Los Angeles Golf Club and ended up marking league and franchise history for one side of the equation.

Boston survived Los Angeles and, in doing so, earned its first victory as a franchise. It was strange that they went all of last season without one, but they are officially undefeated after their debut in season two.

From a roster standpoint, Boston’s half featured Rory McIlroy and Keegan Bradley with Michael Thorbjornsen as a backup. Justin Rose, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala completed the Los Angeles team.

Here’s a summary of the score and how it played out.

TRIPLE

  • Hole 1 (Alpine): Los Angeles wins the hole and goes 1-0

  • Hole 2 (Stone & Steeple): Boston hit a Hammer that Los Angeles rejected and tied things at 1-1.

  • Hole 3 (Fallen Pine): Keegan Bradley missed a late putt to give Los Angeles another win and a 2-1 lead

  • Hole 4 (Stored) – This was the official hole for the Boston team and generated a lot of action. Sahith Theegala contributed from off the green and LA hit a Hammer to double, but Thorbjornsen drained Boston’s putt to tie the hole.

  • Hole 5 (set in stone): Second consecutive tie to keep the score 2-1 in favor of Los Angeles

  • Hole 6 (Stinger): Thorbjornsen handled the iconic cliff well and this helped Boston get another hole to tie the match at 2-2.

  • Hole 7 (Cliffhanger): Justin Rose put Collin Morikawa in position to make a birdie to win and retake the lead at 3-2.

  • Hole 8 (Flex): Boston strategically hit a hammer with Rory McIlroy facing a testy putt to win it all and it was eventually accepted and served as a double point when Rory made it, giving Boston a 4-3 lead.

  • Hole 9 (Showtime): Los Angeles won the hole to tie the score 4-4 with three-pointers

INDIVIDUAL Clashes

  • Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose (10 and 13)

  • Keegan Bradley and Collin Morikawa (11 and 14)

  • Michael Thorbjornsen and Sahith Theegala (12 and 15)

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

  • Hole 10 (The Spear): Rory McIlroy defeated Justin Rose to give Boston a 5-4 lead

  • Hole 11 (Loot at stake): Collin Morikawa defeated Keegan Bradley to tie things at 5-5

  • Hole 12 (Cenote): Michael Thorbjornsen defeated Sahith Theegala to take a 6-5 lead

  • Hole 13 (Bluebonnet): McIlroy and Rose tied the hole

  • Hole 14 (On The Rocks): Bradley and Morikawa tied the hole

  • Hole 15 (Quick Draw): Michael Thorbjornsen defeated Sahith Theegala to take a 7-5 lead and win the match.

As this was Boston Common Golf’s first win, it marked the first TGL win for a specific individual: Rory McIlroy. This particular match was Rory’s first in TGL since winning the Masters last year, so perhaps achieving the professional Grand Slam really served as a breakthrough.

TGL returns next Tuesday at 4:00 pm CT with The Bay Golf Club taking on Atlanta Drive GC (1-0).
