Micah Richards was on his podcast today talking about Chelsea’s draw with Man City. He made a very interesting comment about how the Blues had fought their way into the game against a previously dominant City side.

Richards says Delap’s introduction changed the game

“I think the big turning point of the game was Liam Delap,” said the pundit and former Manchester City player.

“I thought their runs back, especially seeing them at the top of the stadium, just pushed City back a little bit and then City didn’t really know what to do with it. That allowed Cole Palmer to play like I mentioned and they got a bit of confidence.”

There is no doubt that this change helped Chelsea, and while it was good for the result, it is even more bad news for Joao Pedro. The Brazilian contributed absolutely nothing once again, and Delap simply running around a bit for half an hour gave the team more than the Brazilian had in the entire game.

If a guy who has scored 0 goals in the Premier League until January is preferable above you… you’re in trouble.

Apparently, JP works best as a number ten; Well, guess what, we already have Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez (and a couple of others) who are better in that role. So if he continues to play so poorly as a striker, it’s hard to see where his future lies.

In other news…

Rosenior’s big challenge will be to get Cole Palmer back to his best, as Matt Law pointed out in his article for today’s Daily Telegraph.

Andy Brassell was on TalkSport today pointing out that Chelsea fans comparing incoming Liam Rosenior to Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte should be honest about the club’s new targets.
