It’s a tool of sorts that allows you to recognize the efforts of players who don’t necessarily get the same attention as their teammates or who have gone above and beyond before individual games.

Rhamondre Stevenson deservedly received the opportunity to make his strong late-season stretch in Week 18. K’Lavon Chaisson, Stefon Diggs, Mack Hollins and Carlton Davis III all received the nod against their former teams in Weeks 1, 5, 9 and 10, respectively. Jahlani Tavai was recognized after returning following a tumultuous period in his personal life in Week 13.
Anfernee Jennings will get the nod to the AFC championship on Sunday.
“(Jennings) will be the game captain and that’s deservedly so,” Vrabel announced Friday, according to a video provided by the team. “…I appreciate the professionalism he’s shown this entire season. I appreciate him taking advantage of his opportunities: playing physical, playing on special teams, finding a role.
“It was an easy choice for me this week.”
Jennings has been tremendous of late, helping fill in for the injured Harold Landry III and racking up 3.0 sacks, 5.0 tackles for loss and six quarterback hits in the last five games against the Baltimore Ravens. New York Jets, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Chargers and Houston Texans.Advertisement
New England wasn’t even sure they wanted this guy on the roster, as reports have indicated he was on the trade block for several weeks before staying on due to his contract, which is a dodge, if you ask me.
Jennings will now occupy the most important position of his career, as he will be the primary person tasked with replacing Landry against the Denver Broncos, all with a trip to Super Bowl LX on the line.
It is a pressure-filled position, but well deserved.
