The Buffalo Bills were set to interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel for their vacancy.

The interview was scheduled, but McDaniel later withdrew and decided not to continue with the meeting, with no exact details of why he made that decision immediately available.
However, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer has shed some light on why he canceled, although it’s a strange reason.
Breer reports that McDaniel “may have felt a little uncomfortable interviewing for the Bills job so soon after taking over as the Chargers’ OC.”
McDaniel has circulated head coaching interviews this cycle, but he has also drawn interest in offensive coordinator vacancies and has interviewed for a few.

Reports suggest that McDaniel is expected to become the Los Angeles Chargers’ next offensive coordinator, but the team has yet to make it official and it has been almost a week since it was reported.
The belief was that McDaniel’s hiring has not yet been made official because he is still weighing his head coaching options, so Breer’s reported reasoning for McDaniel leaving Buffalo is strange.
One would assume that McDaniel would at least be intrigued enough to interview him. After all, the Bills also offer a fantastic opportunity for McDaniel, as the team is already in a win-now position and boasts one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Josh Allen.
Obviously, this is great news for the Chargers, who now have one less threat to steal McDaniel from them.

As far as we know, the Raiders appear to be the last team to have head coaching interest in McDaniel, but one has to wonder if he won’t agree to a second interview for the same reason he didn’t talk to Buffalo.
