Jan. 27 (UPI) — The Buffalo Bills have agreed to hire Joe Brady as head coach, they announced Tuesday.

Brady and the Bills agreed to a five-year contract. The former Bills offensive coordinator joined the franchise in 2022 as quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to interim offensive coordinator in 2023 and continued in the role for the past two years.

The Bills had the No. 4 offense in the NFL in 2023. They were No. 10 in 2024. The 2025-26 Bills totaled the fourth-most points and yards in the league, fueled by the No. 15 running game and passing game.

The Bills, who fired Sean McDermott on Jan. 19, went 8-8 in the postseason under their former head coach. McDermott’s Bills went 98-50 in the regular season from 2017 to 2025.

Brady served as the Carolina Panthers’ offensive coordinator in 2020 and 2021. He held the same role for LSU in 2019, when former Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow threw for a record 5,671 yards, 60 touchdowns and six interceptions en route to an undefeated season and a national title.

Brady also served as an offensive assistant for the New Orleans Saints in 2017 and 2018, working under coach Sean Payton.

Former New York Giants coach Brian Daboll, former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel and former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers were among the candidates for the Bills job.
