During his traditional state of the nation address, the Prime Minister of Burkina Faso announced, on January 30, 2026, the construction of five (05) sports academies throughout the country.

Five sports academies will be created in Burkina Faso. This ambitious sports development project will begin in 2026, according to the head of the Burkinabe government. Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo He made the announcement on January 30, 2026, before the National Assembly during his state of the nation address.

This initiative continues a proactive approach initiated by the Burkina Faso government since Captain Ibrahim Traoré came to power. Reviewing the achievements of 2025, the Prime Minister highlighted the renovation and subsequent approval of the August 4 Stadium, the ongoing construction (75% complete) of the new Bobo-Dioulasso stadium with capacity for 15,000 spectators, the celebration of the 37th Tour du Faso, etc.

This project is promoted by the Presidential Initiative for the Emergence and Promotion of Sports Excellence (IP-RELIS). One of its main objectives is to provide each region of the country with a modern sports complex for the training of young talents. The first phase was launched in May 2025 in Kaya, a city located 100 kilometers northeast of the capital, Ouagadougou.
