New Spartans head coach Pat Fitzgerald met with the media on Wednesday to discuss a number of key topics, one of which will be the upcoming spring practice. According to Chris Solari of the Detroit Free Press, Fitzgerald said Michigan State will take the field for the first time on March 17 for its first spring practice.

Additionally, Fitzgerald said spring practice will conclude with a fan fest-style event as the final outing of the spring session. This means Michigan State will once again not hold a traditional spring game, a trend that has taken over all of college football.
Fitzgerald will take over after former Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith was fired after two seasons. He was hired in early December and has since brought a lot of energy and positive vibes to the Spartans program. Those positive vibes will continue with spring practice beginning in mid-March.
