The strikes come in the midst of an ongoing Israeli offensive in Gaza and violations of resolution 1701 of the Security Council by Israeli forces and Hezbollah’s militants continue. The last agreement for the cessation of hostilities between the two parties was signed last November.
Since its inception, Unifil has played an important role in the progress of peace and security in southern Lebanon.
The ‘blue helmets’ of the mission have the mandate to help the parties to the conflict in their implementation of resolution 1701, which ended hostilities between Israeli and Hezbollah forces in 2006.

“We, once again, urge the parties to refrain from any activity that can endanger the cessation of hostilities and continue to support the parties To implement resolution 1701 of the Security Council, ”said UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, at a press conference on Friday.
In his Friday statement, Unifil said that Israeli strikes “put at risk the fragile stability that has been built since November last year” and that “civilians undermine the confidence of civilians that a non -violent solution is possible.”
Last November, the UN had welcomed the high the fire reached between the two parties.
The statement reiterated that Unifil and the Lebanese army are working to restore stability towards the south and throughout the “blue line” of 120 km between the south of Lebanon and northern Israel.
‘Civilizers and civilians of the peace in danger’
According to the statement, the peace forces parked in Deir Kifa, near Burj Qalawieh, in the south, moved to the shelters for security, follow the strikes on Thursday night. “The strikes endanger the lives of Lebanese soldiers, the maintenance of UN peace and civilians.”
“We call on Israel’s defense forces that refrain from any additional strike and retire completely from the Lebanese territory,” Unifil wrote. “We also ask everywhere that avoid more rapes or staggered actions.”
The mission emphasized that “the continuous climbing puts the hard progress that the parties have made to restore stability at risk.”
The UN Peace Forces continue to observe FDI activities in the mission’s operation area, Dujarric told journalists at the regular midday conference on Friday.
They found a terrestrial mine and other unexplained devices, while separately, a Unifil patrol found a cache of unattended weapons and informed the Lebanese armed forces, he said.
Unifil was established in 1978 to confirm the withdrawal of the Israeli forces of the south of Lebanon. Since the adoption of resolution 1701, UNIFIL also monitors the cessation of hostilities and extends assistance to help guarantee humanitarian access, among other responsibilities.
