The liquidation was driven by a 35% sequential drop in operating income from the steel operations to $322 million, caused by lower realized steel prices, weak seasonal demand and planned maintenance outages that reduced flat-rolled production by approximately 140,000 tonnes – 150,000 tonnes.
For the fiscal year ending December 2026, analysts expect STLD’s EPS to rise 70.1% year over year to $13.59. The company’s history of earnings surprises is mixed. It surpassed consensus estimates in three of the last four quarters and missed estimates on another occasion.
STLD stock has an overall consensus rating of “Strong Buy.” Of the 11 analysts covering the stock, opinions include eight “Strong Buys” and three “Holds.”
On January 9, Morgan Stanley analyst Carlos De Alba downgraded Steel Dynamics to “Hold” from “Buy” and set a price target of $194.
As of this writing, the stock is trading above the average price target of $192.40. The street-high $200 price target implies only a marginal upside from current levels.
