Janocko was the quarterbacks coach for the Seattle Seahawks and has worked with Kubiak at several stops. Leonard was the Raiders’ defensive line coach and running game coordinator. Lack of experience in current positions is a worrying issue in senior staff positions.

Kubiak, Janocko and Leonard are all under 40 years old. They have a combined total of zero years of experience in their new rules. Kubiak has never been a head coach and Janocko/Leonard have never been NFL coordinators until now.
That comes with risk. It’s worth noting that Kubiak tried to add experience elsewhere. He hired former Chargers and Titans head coach Mike McCoy as his assistant head coach. Joe DeCamillis, 60, is the special teams coordinator. DeCamillis has won two Super Bowls in that role. But it’s Kubiak, Janocko and Leonard who will have the biggest coaching impact on the Raiders. The advantages are interesting, but the disadvantages are also worrying. The Raiders are betting on youth after getting a whiff of the aging Pete Carroll, but that comes with risks.
