Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir is back in the news with his bold predictions about India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. Just days after labeling Abhishek Sharma as a “hard worker”, Amir has now taken aim at the entire Indian team, claiming that the defending champions will not make it to the semi-finals. According to him, Suryakumar Yadav’s India, unbeaten in the last three ICC events, will not make it out of Group A of Super 8.
India defeated the Netherlands in their final group stage match on Wednesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, advancing to the Super 8 without losing a single match in the 10th edition of the T20 World Cup. Despite this, the team’s performance has not been perfect, with the batting side leaving a lot to be desired.
To begin with, Abhishek Sharma is yet to open his account in the tournament, registering three consecutive ducks. Looking at India’s batting so far, Amir suggested that teams like South Africa and West Indies could exploit the team’s weaknesses.
During the show ‘Haarna Mana Hai’, the host asked Amir about his predictions for the Super 8 Group A semi-finals. Amir replied, “South Africa and West Indies.”
When the host commented that he didn’t think India would reach the quarter-finals, Amir shook his head firmly. “If you look at their matches, the batting collapsed in every match except the Pakistan match. The pressure will increase in the Super 8 matches. The way South Africa and the West Indies have been playing, they can beat any team,” he said while explaining why he doesn’t see India reaching the semi-finals.
India will begin their Super 8 campaign on Sunday, February 22 against South Africa in Ahmedabad. The team will then travel to Chennai to take on Sikandar Raza’s Zimbabwe on Thursday, February 26. Their last Super 8 match will be against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 1.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Pakistan, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka will compete for two spots in the semi-finals. Amir has predicted that Pakistan and New Zealand will advance from the group. The Super 8 leg will begin on Saturday, February 21 in Colombo, when Pakistan will take on New Zealand at the R Premadasa Stadium.
