Should the Boston Celtics retire Al Horford’s jersey number? The Celtics have a slew of such jerseys out of commission forever, and given the club’s history, that shouldn’t be surprising. But that trend is no reason to hesitate to honor the 2024 grand champion in Boston, given that there are enough jersey numbers left to field multiple NBA rosters.
So rather than wringing your hands over jersey number availability, the real question is whether Horford has done enough with Boston to deserve it, and whether his decisions to leave the team not once, but twice in free agency should affect that outcome as well.
