International paper company DS Smith will invest up to 100 million Danish crowns ($15.5 million) to modernize its packaging operations in Grenaa, Denmark.
The measure seeks to increase the production capacity and efficiency of the site, with the aim of improving service for customers in northern Europe.
The company plans to install a new rotary die-cutting line with flexographic printing capabilities.
This machinery includes five printing units and a 16/28 tall board rotary die-cutter line from Göpfert, which features technology aimed at increased precision, efficient material handling and waste reduction during corrugated board converting.
With the new equipment, DS Smith expects its Grenaa facility to handle up to an additional 15 million square meters of corrugated cardboard per year.
The improvements are also designed to support complex packaging requirements and adapt to changes in product types with shorter transition times.
In addition to the developments in Denmark, DS Smith will expand its Bredasten headquarters in Värnamo, Sweden, by 3,000 m².
The gradual upgrade, scheduled for completion in June 2027, includes the relocation of warehouse operations from Malmö.
DS Smith Denmark sales director Kristian Eriksen said: “We see a clear trend where an increasing number of customers are automating their packaging and logistics processes.
“This places significantly higher demands on consistent quality and precision in packaging. With this investment, we are strengthening our ability to deliver solutions that work seamlessly in our customers’ automated flows, both today and in the future.”
In January, DS Smith worked with Raymarine to design packaging for radar products using fiber-based corrugated board, replacing expanded polyethylene foam and eliminating single-use plastic from the packaging process.
“DS Smith to invest in Grenaa facility upgrade” was created and originally published by Packaging Gateway, a brand owned by GlobalData.
