Liam Rosenior has been speaking to TNT Sports ahead of the start of Chelsea’s game against Aston Villa, and there was only one topic they wanted to talk about: the manager’s decision to let go of Robert Sánchez and bring in Filip Jorgensen to replace him.

“He has played very well in training. Because of the way I work with goalkeepers, I don’t have an absolute number one. I want competition in all areas. He has been waiting very patiently for his opportunity. Now I have given it to him tonight,” explained the Chelsea coach.
I mean, Liam… there’s an FA Cup match on Friday. If it’s simply about giving the other goalie a chance, that was the time to do it.
You may not believe in having an established number one, but you must surely believe in one goalkeeper being better than another at any given time. Despite his poor game on Sunday, Sánchez is Rosenior’s best goalkeeper, and changing that for such a crucial game seems like an unnecessary risk.

Not to mention what it means for Sánchez’s long-term confidence, knowing that he is one mistake away from falling.
