Liam Rosenior says Chelsea missed the player who could have made the difference against Newcastle

Liam Rosenior points to Pedro Neto’s absence in yesterday’s defeat against Newcastle United as a decisive factor.

Chelsea were all over Newcastle in the second half trying to find a goal or two but it didn’t happen and Newcastle held on for the three points. Chelsea huffed and puffed but could not break through a stubborn defensive line with almost all of their players behind the ball for the entire half.

But you can’t blame Eddie Howe and Newcastle for that. They achieved their goal, they got the advantage and decided to protect it and hold on for the three points. It was risky for them, but it was worth it and Chelsea were poor.

Neto was sanctioned because he pushed a ball boy in the PSG game that week, so he could not participate in the game. And in comments collected in X last night, Rosenior says that they missed Neto:

“We knew there would be an audience. Today it cost us Pedro on the field, who could have made a big difference.”

Who knows if Neto would have made a difference or not, but it seems that Rosenior sees him as a very important player.

In other news…

Rosenior also summed up Chelsea’s problems after another on-field defeat by saying they could be contained in two main “aspects”.

In a situation that has caused much drama and debate, the manager also deviated by talking about the Ridiculous pre-match meeting situation.
