Huntington National Bank Review (2026): A Regional Bank Recognized as a Leader in Climate Responsibility

Summary: Huntington National Bank is a regional bank that primarily operates in 14 US states. The bank was established in 1866 and is headquartered in Columbus, OH. Today, Huntington has 1,000 branches and more than 1,600 ATMs. Huntington stands out for its leadership in climate responsibility.

Huntington Perks Checking offers a little more than the average checking account. According to Huntington’s website, the Perks Checking account earns interest, although the rates are not disclosed online.

This account has no minimum opening deposit and the $10 monthly fee is waived if you deposit at least $1,000 per month or maintain at least $5,000 in your Huntington accounts. The $15 overdraft fee is waived if you overdraw by $50 or less. Some other features to keep in mind:

  • Free monitoring of your VantageScore monthly credit score.

  • Five free non-Huntington ATM withdrawals per month.

  • Get your direct deposits up to two days early.

Huntington offers a basic checking account called Asterisk-Free Checking. This option does not earn interest, but has no monthly fees or balance requirements. Like Perks Checking, you’ll have no overdraft fees if you overdraw by $50 or less, and you can access your direct deposits up to two days early.

If you want all the features that come with Huntington Perks Checking, and a little more, consider the Platinum Perks Checking account. This account earns a 0.03% APY and gives you unlimited, fee-free ATM withdrawals, plus discounts on select Huntington loans.

Huntington Platinum Perks Checking has a $25 monthly fee, but it is waived if you have at least $25,000 in combined deposits with Huntington.

With a minimum deposit of $50, you can open a Huntington Premier Savings Account. Interest rates vary by zip code, but the currently advertised rate is a disappointing 0.01%.

As an account holder, the $4 monthly fee may be waived if you have a Huntington checking account or maintain an average daily balance of $300. You can also set alerts for unusual transactions or to remind you of upcoming payments.

With the Huntington Relationship Savings Account, interest rates range from 0.01% to 3.29%, depending on which Huntington checking account you have and your account balance. To get the highest rate, you must be a new Huntington customer and maintain between $5,000 and $2,000,001 in deposit.

The $10 monthly fee on this account is waived if you maintain an average daily balance of $2,500 or have a Huntington checking account.

Customers new to Huntington can earn up to 3.66% with a Relationship Money Market account. But your exact rate and monthly fee depend on which Huntington checking account you have, and you won’t earn any interest until your balance reaches at least $25,000.

New Huntington customers must live in one of the following states to open one of these accounts: Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Wisconsin.

The $25 monthly fee on the Relationship Money Market account is waived if you maintain an average daily balance of $25,000 or if you have a Perks Checking or Platinum Perks Checking account.

Huntington offers four personal credit cards, but there’s enough variety among them that most customers will find something they like. Keep in mind that their rewards cards have no annual fees.

  • Huntington Secured Credit Card: A refundable deposit of $250 to $2,500 gets you this secured credit card that can eventually be converted to a Huntington Cash Back credit card. All purchases earn 1% cash back.

  • Huntington Cash Back Credit Card: Earn unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase. The balance transfer APR is 0% for 12 months, but the purchase APR is up to 27.49% from day one.

  • Huntington Voice Credit Card: The balance transfer APR is 0% for 12 months on this card and the balance transfer fee is 3%. The purchase APR can be up to 25.49%.

  • Huntington Voice Rewards Credit Card: Earn 3x rewards on up to $2,000 on a quarterly spending category of your choice and earn 1x rewards on other purchases. You can also earn up to 25% bonus points if your card is linked to Huntington Platinum Perks Checking. The APR rises to 27.49%.

When it comes to loans, Huntington has your basic borrowing needs covered. The bank’s loan products include:

  • Mortgage loans: Mortgages, refinancing, specialized loans for medical professionals and lines of credit and home equity loans.

  • Personal loans: Personal loans range up to $50,000, deposit-backed loans up to $500,000, and lines of credit up to $100,000.

  • Car Loans: Loans are available for auto purchase, leasing, refinancing, and specialty vehicles.

Most Huntington bank accounts come with a monthly maintenance fee, but you can have the fee waived if you meet certain criteria, such as maintaining a minimum deposit. Below is an overview of common rates customers may encounter.

FEE FEE AMOUNT
Monthly benefit checking account fee $15
Platinum Perks Checking Account Monthly Fee $25
Premier savings account monthly fee $4
Monthly Relationship Savings Account Fee $10
Relationship Money Market Account Monthly Fee $25
Overdraft fee $15 for overdrafts over $50

  • Fee waivers: Monthly maintenance fees for your accounts may be waived with qualifying activities, such as maintaining a minimum account balance.

  • Credit monitoring: Customers with Perks Checking and Platinum Perks Checking accounts can sign up for free monitoring of their VantageScore credit score.

For Huntington customer service, you can call 800-480-2265 seven days a week between 7 am and 8 pm Eastern Time. Chat support is also available on the website, although you can’t contact a live agent this way.

Huntington has apps for iPhone and Android that you can use for basic banking functions like transferring money and checking your account balances. The Apple Store app has 4.8 stars and the Google Play app has 4.5 stars, although recent reviews mention that several features of the apps do not work correctly.
