Are you ready to see 16 teams punch their tickets to the Sweet 16 today?

With the women’s basketball tournament concluding the Round of 64 on Saturday, that gives us eight Round of 32 games for both women and men today. Even better: The women’s tournament will start a new game every hour, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. That’s a nice counterbalance to the men’s tournament that gives only one game at a time until about halftime of the game between St. John’s and Kansas. No matter what, there’s at least one more game on for you in case something decides to go wrong, like it did in the Michigan-Saint Louis game with about eight minutes left on Saturday afternoon.

Added bonus with the women’s tournament: Since there were no upsets on Friday, that means every game today will be with the highest-ranked team hosting its opponent. Maryland in North Carolina, NC State in Michigan, and so on. Men’s games can be fun and have a great neutral court setting, but they don’t have the added flavor possible of someone hitting a stunner on someone else’s court.

Today we go from 11am CT to about 12 hours later as Alabama/Texas Tech for the men and TCU/Washington for the women will start around 9pm and run for about two hours. Is it a long time? Sure, but this is the last day of the year like this. Tomorrow there will be eight more women’s matches, of course, but nothing like the last four days until next March.

On the Big East side, we have St. John’s and UConn from the men’s tournament in action. The Red Storm arrives in Kansas at 4:15 pm this afternoon, while Dan Hurley vs Mick Cronin will meet in an Angry-Off at 7:45 pm when the Huskies take on UCLA.

Here is the full schedule of men’s and women’s tournaments for the day, with all times in Central, as always.
