The Motor Ombudsman has added the Leapmotor electric vehicle manufacturer to his new Code of Automobile Practice, marking the 50th manufacturer to commit to the consumer protection scheme.

Leapmotor, who launched its first models from the United Kingdom earlier this year, will now comply with the latest version of the Code approved by the Chartered Commercial Standards Institute. The code establishes almost 100 requirements on how new vehicles and guarantees are offered, from the presentation of simple English terms to ensuring that the spare parts are available when a model is launched. It currently covers 98% of new cars sold in the United Kingdom.

Bill Fennell, head of the chief people and managing director of the Motor Ombudsman, said that the addition of Leapmotor “emphasizes the exceptional value that accreditation brings to vehicle manufacturers”, and added that the code “acts as an important base and a reference point to follow the principles of best practices.”

Damien Dally, managing director of Leapmotor UK, described the “a crucial trampoline movement to build a positive presence among the first -time owners” and a sign that the company “strives to be the best in everything we do”.

The accreditation also provides access to Leapmotor to the alternative resolution service of the Motor Defender’s Disputes for non -resolved complaints, a dedicated commercial advice line and opportunities for training and industry events. The company can show the Motor People defender and CTSI logos on its marketing and will appear on the organization’s website.

The retail network of the United Kingdom of Leapmotor, which aims to expand to 80 sites at the end of 2025, is already accredited under the motor sales code of the motor defender, designed to guarantee high standards beyond the legal requirements for sales of new and used cars.

Last year, the Motor People Ombudsman handled almost 18,000 contacts of consumers related to the new car code and assumed approximately 1,900 additional cases, an increase of 22% in 2023. Common complaints included terms of guarantee and unclear disputes about the coverage of the policy.

“LEAPMOTOR is recorded with the new Motor People’s defender automobile code” was originally created and published by Finance Online Motor, a brand owned by Globaldata.
