The issue gained attention after comments from Josh Yohe, who noted the growing concern. “No, I don’t believe there is an NHL conspiracy against the Penguins,” he wrote, but added that repeated missed or questionable calls have made it a true story.

“There have been so many blatant and failed calls made against him recently that it has legitimately become a story,” Yohe said. “Add to that 13 of 14 goalie interference challenges going against him. The organization is furious.”

NHL analyst Dan Kingerski also said the volume of calls against the Penguins stands out, even if some calls are technically correct.
“Wow, the calls have been legit, but the volume against the Penguins usually means they get a call or two back,” Kingerski wrote. “That’s how it works, but Bichsel taking Karlsson’s stick is bad, now Brazeau tripped when trying to leave the zone. Eeeek.”

In most cases, teams expect balance over time, but Pittsburgh hasn’t seen that change.
Penguins’ Erik Karlsson incident during All-Star game
The anger was evident even on the ice. In a game against the Dallas Stars, defenseman Erik Karlsson reacted strongly after a botched call involving Lian Bichsel. Bichsel hits Karlsson’s stick before scoring, extending the Stars’ lead in a 6-3 victory. No penalty was awarded and Karlsson’s reaction showed how important the moment was.
That loss added to a difficult career. Pittsburgh played without Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin due to injuries, leaving the team shorthanded against one of the best teams in the league. Despite a good start, penalties and key moments derailed the game.

The Penguins remain in the playoff race with a record of 36-21-16, maintaining a strong position in the Metropolitan Division. However, recent results, injuries and controversial decisions have slowed his progress.
With the postseason approaching, emotions are clearly running high. The Penguins believe they are not getting fair opportunities and the timing of those decisions could determine their season.
