Thunes has introduced a direct-to-workforce cross-border payment solution aimed at businesses paying remote teams, freelancers and freelancers abroad.

The company said the product supports instant payments and can be used for compensation and other disbursements.

According to Thunes, the solution enables real-time payments across 12 billion bank accounts, mobile wallets, and stablecoin wallets in 140 countries.

Companies can access the service through a single API.

Thunes positioned the launch as a response to slow and fragmented international payment processes.

The new payment capability connects businesses directly to local payment schemes and wallets, including M-Pesa, Alipay and GCash.

The payments company added that workers in countries with volatile local currencies can receive payments in stable currencies, designed to reduce the impact of currency fluctuations on the value received.

Elie Bertha, chief product officer at Thunes, said: “The gig and freelance economy has exploded in recent years, but making global payments for these industries has proven difficult for too long.

“With Thunes’ direct global workforce solution, we are empowering businesses to meet modern workers’ demand for instant transparency and immediate access to their hard-earned money.

“Our single API entry point reaches every corner of the world, ensuring that whether you pay a creator in Argentina, a driver in Singapore or a developer in Nairobi, the experience is fast, transparent and reliable.”

Thunes operates what it calls a proprietary direct global network. Network members can make real-time payments in more than 140 countries and more than 90 currencies.

The launch follows the company’s recent partnership activity. Earlier this month, South Africa-based Absa Group partnered with Thunes to launch a cross-border remittance service called Absa Global Pay.

“Thunes launches instant cross-border payments for global workers” was created and originally published by Electronic Payments International, a brand owned by GlobalData.
