The Toronto Blue Jays already miss Alejandro Kirk due to injury.

They hope they won’t be without Addison Barger for long as the Los Angeles Dodgers are next on the schedule.

It’s a rematch of the epic World Series from the fall, and fans of both clubs will be excited.

Barger will be working to get back on the field.

The left-handed slugger left Sunday’s game against the White Sox with what the Blue Jays called “bilateral ankle discomfort.”

After the game, Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters, “Hopefully he’s OK. Hopefully it’s just a day or two, or maybe not even a day.”

Clearly, the Blue Jays would prefer that Barger not get hurt at all.

But if he’s going to get hurt, it would be preferable to miss just a couple of days in April than to miss more time later in the season.

Maybe an absence would allow Barger to reestablish himself a bit anyway. He is just 1 for 19 to start the new season, a batting average of around .053.

He was 0 for 3 on Sunday before being eliminated.

However, it’s still early, so there’s no need to read too much into the stats.

Last season, Barger discovered himself in a big way, a way that allowed him to make a big impact for Toronto.

Now, he’ll simply have to find a way to get back on the field to impact this Dodgers series and beyond.
