IPL: ‘Mix of hard lengths, bouncers and cutters’ – Prasidh Krishna analyzes GT’s bowling formula

Gujarat Titans seamer Prasidh Krishna has said that reading the conditions well, varying the pace and building a strong dressing room culture were instrumental in his 4/28 against Lucknow Super Giants, a spell that fueled a seven-wicket win and took him to the top of the Purple Cap race. Prasidh kept the focus on the Gujarat Titans’ collective effort after his player-of-the-match spell set up GT’s seven-wicket win on Sunday. The run helped GT restrict LSG to 164/8 before chasing it down in 18.4 overs.

Despite his good start to the season, the pacer said the result mattered much more than individual milestones. “We are happy to have taken the win for the team,” said Prasidh, adding that it was important for GT to build on a winning streak after backing up the previous result with another strong overall display.

He said his success in Lucknow was due to him reading the conditions quickly and intelligently varying the pace and duration. Prasidh said “a mix of hard lengths, bouncers and cutters” worked for him, especially when other players were also using the short ball and he could surprise the batsmen with a change. He highlighted that T20 bowling is about adapting to the surface and not following an option.

At Ekana, he said, both batsmen and bowlers were tested and any mistake in line or length was punished.

“As a bowler, you can bowl a yorker, you can bowl a long ball, you can bowl a bouncer. So we tried to play with those things and on certain days some balls really work well and you stick with them,” Prasidh said, adding: “The bowling was a challenge, I would say. Even for the bowlers, if you didn’t hit the line, the ball didn’t travel. We saw that in the Powerplay when we missed the slots. They played pretty good shots. “It was quite a challenge for both the bowlers and batsmen.”
