On Tuesday morning, president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan spoke with reporters for his annual pre-draft press conference. And after taking an aggressive and successful path through free agency, he was asked if the team’s new additions will narrow the focus on its first-round pick.

“No. If anything, I think it opens up a lot of possibilities for us at Pick 19,” Morgan responded. “I think all positions are on the table. And like I said before, you never know who will fall to us.
“So I think we’re definitely in the best player available mentality. So yeah, I think what we did in free agency prepared us to do that.”
Morgan and Co. hit the open market as soon as they could last month, snagging pass rusher Jaelan Phillips and Pro Bowl inside linebacker Devin Lloyd on the first day of the legal tampering period. Carolina also added left tackle Rasheed Walker and center Luke Fortner, both of whom will likely start in Week 1, and brought back 14 of its own free agents.
The Panthers’ biggest remaining needs, at least according to league-wide consensus, are at wide receiver, tight end, linebacker, cornerback and safety.
