On April 23, Reuters reported that PulteGroup, Inc. (NYSE:PHM) had weaker first-quarter results as profits and revenue declined as demand fell. The corporation had diluted earnings of $1.79 per share, down from $2.57 a year ago, and revenue fell to $3.41 billion from $3.89 billion.

Home sales gross margin fell from 27.5% to 24.4% as demand slowed. CEO Ryan Marshall said both domestic and global factors weakened demand, saying, “We see a consumer concerned about affordability and the economy.”

According to Reuters, inflation drove away buyers, exacerbating problems in the home construction business, which has suffered from declining sales for several quarters.
