WASHINGTON – The Milwaukee Brewers may well have avoided the worst-case scenario regarding Jacob Misiorowski.

The right-hander continued his normal day-after-start running program before Saturday’s game against the Washington Nationals and reported no ill effects – certainly a huge relief for both player and team after Misiorowski had to exit in the sixth inning of an active no-hitter on May 1 with cramps in his right hamstring.

“Everything was normal,” Misiorowski said. “I mean, any time you have an injury or whatever you want to call it, a cramp, it’s always good to come out better on the other side.”

Manager Pat Murphy said later Friday that the belief was that Misiorowski actually only suffered cramps and early signs on Saturday appear to support that, as does the fact that no imaging has been required.

“Things seem to be going in the right direction,” he said. “Today he feels good enough to think he’s going to be fine. Let’s see if he can get through a normal day and see what it has in store for him.”

“I think it’s going to be fine.”

The news wasn’t as promising for left-hander Ángel Zerpa, who landed on the disabled list earlier in the week with stiffness in his left forearm.

Murphy said Zerpa has had a second opinion and that “the ball is in his court” on whether he decides to have surgery.

Zerpa spoke briefly about his situation but didn’t shed much light on which way he might be leaning.

“I haven’t made any decisions yet,” he said. “I’m still waiting to collaborate with (the Brewers), talk to him to determine what would be best for me. The season is still young here. Decide how we want to attack things and the best course of action.”

Zerpa was asked if he thinks he’ll be able to pitch again this season.

“I haven’t shot here for a few days,” he said. “That’s between me and the team. No decision has been made yet on what’s going to be done.”
