Maddy Westbeld had a legitimate role as a rookie on the Chicago Sky.

It will not have the opportunity to have a second season.
According to the WNBA’s official transaction log, Westbeld was fired on Monday.
If she clears waivers unclaimed, she will be a free agent and can sign with any team in the league.
Westbeld was a Sky second-round pick (No. 16 overall) in the 2025 WNBA Draft out of Notre Dame.
As a rookie, she averaged 4.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game and shot a promising 39.5% from 3-point range and an impressive 87.5% from the foul line.
Why did Sky get rid of Maddy Westbeld?
Sky is revolutionizing its entire squad and Westbeld was one of the victims.
It’s difficult for players chosen outside of the first round to remain in the WNBA given the limited roster spots available, and Sky clearly chose to take a look at new players.

The 6-foot-3 Westbeld with a shooting touch could certainly get another chance in the WNBA, but it won’t be with Chicago at this time.
