Carmelo Anthony, now 19, is charged with murder in the April 2025 death of Austin Metcalf, 17, on a school playground in Frisco, a Dallas suburb.

Metcalf’s death drew widespread attention, in part because of social media posts that exaggerated the issue in racial terms. Anthony, who attended Frisco Centennial High School, was black, while Metcalf, who attended Frisco Memorial High School, was white.
Prosecutors rested their case Saturday in Collin County Circuit Court. Jurors last week heard from a number of witnesses who were present at the track meeting, including people who said Anthony was the aggressor in the tent and that he quickly confessed to the stabbing.
One of Anthony’s colleagues, who testified on Monday, said Anthony was “distraught.”
“I could hear him saying, ‘I asked him not to touch me,’” the witness said.
Judge John Roach Jr. said the young witnesses could not be publicly identified.
