The Typhoon of Shanghai (Reuters), Matmo, arrived in southern China on Sunday, said the state station, after the flights and many events had been canceled in the province of the island of Hainan, causing interruptions in a peak holiday season.
Matmo, which caused floods in the Philippines last week, touched land on the east coast of Xuwen in the province of Guangdong around 2:50 pm (0650 GMT).
It was generating winds of 151 kph (94 mph) as it approached the coast of China, said the National Meteorological Center.

The typhoon arrived in the mid -holiday of eight days that began with the National Day on Wednesday, during which people are expected to take around 2.36 billion trips, according to the estimates informed by the state media.
Flights and Ferries in Hainan’s holiday center had already been canceled since Saturday night in anticipation of the strong winds and heavy rains of Matmo.
