atlanta — Three prisoners who He escaped from an East Atlanta prisonA member of the Federal Fugitive Task Force confirmed that one person had been arrested, including someone who was being held on murder charges, in Florida.
Eric Haynes, assistant chief inspector with the U.S. Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, declined to reveal further details before a news conference scheduled in Atlanta later Tuesday.
The inmate escape from the DeKalb County Jail was discovered early Monday during a routine security check, the county sheriff’s office said.
“We take this violation very seriously and are working diligently to ensure these individuals are safely returned to custody as quickly as possible,” DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox said in a statement before the inmates were re-arrested. Authorities did not share details about how the escape was carried out.
The ages of the prisoners range from 24 to 31 years, and the youngest is accused of murder and armed robbery. The other two prisoners face charges including armed robbery and arson.
The Sheriff’s Office warned that the men may be armed and considered dangerous after their escape.
The prison is located in Decatur, about 10 miles (16 kilometers) east of downtown Atlanta.
