STILLWATER, Okla.– STILLWATER, Okla. — An argument at a private off-campus party escalated into a shooting outside an Oklahoma State University residence hall early Sunday, leaving three people injured including a student, school police said.
University Police Chief Michael Beckner told reporters that two victims were taken to the hospital in stable condition after surgery, while the third was treated and released.
No arrests have been made, but he said police have “some strong leads” and are asking for the public’s help. Investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the campus or the public.
The shooting broke out in an outdoor hallway at the Carricker East student apartments and spread into the parking lot and an adjacent street, after a “dispute between several people” at the party, Beckner said.
He said officers responded to a report of a person collapsing from his injuries at a McDonald’s restaurant and calls of shots fired on campus. When officers arrived on campus around 3:40 a.m., no victims remained at the scene. The chief said that officers secured the area and took about 20 people to a safe place for their safety and began interviews.
The university is located in Stillwater, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Oklahoma City.
