The principal of Huntington High School in Shreveport has been arrested following charges of domestic violence and child endangerment.

The Shreveport Police Department released details of the arrest on Tuesday, October 21.

Shreveport police were contacted on Oct. 20 by Caddo Parish Schools after allegations of domestic violence were made against Nicholaus Smith. According to police, after an investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Smith on two counts of domestic abuse and battery with child endangerment.

Smith turned himself in to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Caddo Parish School Board.

“It’s great to see organizations taking domestic violence seriously as we work to make our community a safer place for all citizens,” said Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith.

According to police, this incident occurred during Smith’s personal time and did not take place on school property or during school hours.
