king gayle is addressing the report that he is expected to leave CBS Mornings next year.
On Thursday, October 30, four people familiar with the situation said they had Variety that King may move to a new role within the organization as his contract expires in May.
When a TMZ reporter approached King the next morning, Friday, October 31, outside the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City, the 70-year-old set the record straight about what she knows is currently happening with her future.
King, who seemed in good spirits, told the reporter: “All I can say is this: From what they tell me inside this building… is that they want me here. They like the work I’m doing. I like the work I’m doing!”
“I’ll tell you this,” he added. “I like the job and the people I work with, so I don’t know what to tell you. I don’t know what to tell you about it.”
King then said that what he “hears in the building” is not what he “reads in the press,” adding, “And what I’m not going to do is negotiate in the media. I’m not going to do that!”
As he got into his car, the reporter asked King if he had an “idea of what things would be like” for the morning news show when his contract expires in May 2026.
“I have no idea,” King responded. “All I know is that I’m here. I’m here and I’m glad I’m here.”
As Globe As previously reported, the move would be part of a major overhaul currently underway at CBS parent company Paramount Skydance. A CBS News spokesperson said Variety that there have been “no discussions with Gayle about her contract” and that they “hope to talk to her about the future.”
However, Globe exclusively learned that CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss has been quietly chasing Hoda Kotb to take the place of the King.
“Bari wants a big name who brings warmth, credibility and viewers. And Hoda ticks all the boxes,” a network source said. Globeadding that the hope is that Kotb, 61, will increase viewership. “CBS no longer accepts third place”.
As for King, a source said, “Gayle sees what’s written on the cue cards. CBS wants a change, and they want it yesterday.”
