Charged safety volunteer Fatal shooting A man who participated in a “No Kings” protest in Salt Lake City in June has been charged with manslaughter, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Matthew Alder allegedly shot a man carrying a rifle during the demonstration, wounding and killing that person. Arthur Volassa ah lo.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill also announced that the man with the gun, Arturo Roberto Gamboa, would not be charged.
“We appreciate the patience of Mr. Ah Lo’s family and the community while our office went through the vetting process. We mourn the loss of Mr. Ah Lo as a husband, father, and active member of our community,” Gill said in a statement.
Ah Loo was a beloved fashion designer in Utah.
An email and phone message left for Alder’s attorney, Phil Wormdahl, seeking comment were not immediately returned.
Police said at the time that Gamboa was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and accused of creating the dangerous situation that led to Ah Lo’s death. Utah is an open state, meaning that people who can legally possess a firearm are allowed to carry it on a public street.
