This year has brought all kinds of twists and turns for investors.

In April they put something called “Liberation Day” on the table for us. Tariffs are still in effect. Cryptocurrencies have finally been adopted by major financial institutions. And the Federal Reserve cut rates… three times.

However, as soon as the Yahoo Finance editorial team sat down to discuss our Company of the Year award, one thing became abundantly clear: How come this year’s winner isn’t based on AI?

So we narrowed it down to two names: Nvidia (NVDA), which won our award in 2016 before becoming everyone’s favorite stock. And OpenAI (OPAI.PVT), the creator of ChatGPT who is on a collision course to conquer the world.

The company that won this year: OpenAI!

“It’s been a very busy year,” OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar exclusively told Yahoo Finance (video above).

“We are energized to receive an award like this. I think it really cements what ChatGPT has become, which is the world’s default intelligence layer,” he said. “On top of that, computing has become the foundation of this next era of AI. And I think, thirdly, it’s been a year where we’ve really reached this day of the next phase of OpenAI. We’ve become a public benefit corporation. We’ve raised a lot of capital with a really strong balance sheet, and we’ve seen a lot of the ecosystem really start to move towards us, to help us create this future.”

Here’s the quick Q&A Yahoo Finance conducted with Friar. Responses have been edited for length and clarity.

Yahoo Finance: It’s 2035. What’s the biggest impact OpenAI has had?

Sara Fraile: You have brought massive intelligence to the world. We simply live in a totally different world. It’s almost like imagining living in a world without electricity or living in a world without the Internet.

Yahoo Finance: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in a word?

Friar: Curious.

Yahoo Finance: Best career advice you’ve ever received?

Friar: Don’t focus on perfection.

Yahoo Finance: What is your superpower?

Friar: I am tireless, that’s why I will never give up. My husband often says that I only have one on and off switch. But like Sam, I’m very curious and I also won’t stop until we’ve done what we need to do.

Yahoo Finance: What quality do you value most in leaders?

Friar: Firmness. What they tell you is what they do.
