New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced this morning that he has relieved defensive coordinator Steve Wilks of his duties. The Charlotte, North Carolina, native previously worked a couple of well-received seasons with the Panthers.

Wilks, in his first stint, served as Carolina’s defensive backs coach (2012 to 2016), assistant head coach (2015 to 2017) and defensive coordinator (2017). He would return in 2022 as defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach, then ended up as interim head coach, following the firing of Matt Rhule, for the final 12 games of the campaign.
Under Wilks’ direction this season, the Jets defense allowed 337.4 yards (20th) and 28.4 points (30th) per game. They also recorded a league-low three takeaways.
Glenn named Chris Harris, his defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator, to Wilks’ now-vacant position. Harris, a former safety, played for the Panthers from 2007-2009.
