President Donald Trump signed a New Year’s Eve proclamation postponing tariff increases on upholstered furniture, kitchen cabinets and sinks for a year, citing ongoing trade talks.
Washington– President Donald Trump signed a postponement of the New Year’s Eve announcement Increased customs duties on upholstered furnitureKitchen cabinets and sinks for a year, citing ongoing trade talks.
The order Trump signed on Wednesday maintains a 25% tariff he imposed in September on those goods, but delays for another year a 30% tariff on upholstered furniture and a 50% tariff on kitchen cabinets and dressing tables.
The increases, which were scheduled to take effect on January 1, come as the Republican president has imposed a wide range of taxes on imported goods to address trade imbalances and other issues.
The president said the furniture tariffs are necessary “to support American industry and protect national security.”
The delay is the latest in Roller coaster of Trump’s tariff wars Since returning to office last year, the president has sometimes announced tariffs without warning and then abruptly delayed or reversed them.
